the davis approach

The Davis Approach is holistic and strengths-based.  It does not take the view that those with learning differences need to be fixed.  Instead the approach honours the gifts of the individual and their learning preference.
It works in harmony with the individuals preferred thinking style and way of being, while dealing with the root cause of the challenges they face that are associated with learning difference.

It takes a positive approach - highlighting the gifts of the visual thinker and allowing them to discover how they think and learn, and where they have confusions.  With this new insight, they are then able to use the Davis tools to enhance their own style of learning; overcome their challenges; and reach their full potential in the education system, the workplace, or in life.

Ron Davis believes that the potential for genius exists in all of us, in some form.  The Davis Approach empowers the individual to discover their potential.

main elements of the davis approach

TOOLS
The individual is given a simple set of self-management tools to enable accurate perception, as well as the ability to maintain mental focus, and regulate mood and energy levels.   This is to enable them to put their brain in an ideal state which, allowing them to perceive the world accurately, assimilate new information and deal with confusions.

KOOSH
Koosh balls are used to strengthen and enhance the use of the Davis
self-management tools in a fun, physical way.

USING CLAY
The Davis Approach uses a hands-on medium of plastilina clay, that enables individuals to create meaning for themselves.  This allows for true mastery.  Clay is used in different ways in different programmes.

Dyslexia / Young Learners
Clay is used to deal with letters, punctuation and words that have the potential to cause confusion.

Autism
Clay is used to create a comprehensive set of life-concepts to allow the individual to make sense of their inner and outer world, as well as being able to create order, take responsibility, and understand relationships.

Attention Mastery (ADD/ADHD)
Clay is used to create life-concepts and scenarios out of clay such as change, consequence, sequence, order and disorder.

Mathematics
Clay is used to deal with concepts, numerals, mathematical symbols and operations.

"I now feel a clarity of who I am and where I am. I had this realisation during my programme that I hadn’t actually been participating in life, but observing it instead. I feel more open, centred, relaxed, real, but most importantly, I feel joy. Now I feel that I can go with the flow and not need to control things. I have a feeling of trust that things are OK and I can just let it be."
