understanding dyslexia

DYSLEXIA is often considered by people as a learning disability. However dyslexia is better described as a two sided coin – both a challenge and a gift.
It is primarily the result of three traits:
  1. An ability to think in pictures rather than the sounds of words.
  2. An ability to see, hear and feel what is in their imagination as if it were real.
  3. A lower than normal tolerance to confusion.

AS A GIFT, this thinking style enables the individual to view the world from many perspectives and in creative ways.  Dyslexics often develop talents in areas such as art, business, creativity, design, drama, engineering, inventing, leadership, problem solving, science and many more.

THE CHALLENGE occurs when the picture-thinker encounters the world of words.  Difficulties can arise for dyslexics when reading, writing, spelling, listening, doing mathematics, or when trying to focus.
