Thanks to Melanie, John’s progress in reading and writing improved dramatically in just a short space of time. Melanie has gotten John to be more confident in his abilities and this has flowed through to his overall self confidence at home and school. Melanie has made sure that the techniques he uses when at tutoring also fit in with the areas John is working on at school. She has a natural understanding of what John needs and how to implement solutions for him.

I also asked John to tell me what he loves at Melanie’s.  "I love all the different activities at Melanie’s and you get to do cool things but you are learning."

It is difficult to convey the depth of love and appreciation we feel towards Melanie for her overwhelming dedication to the job. Her commitment to us and the children saw them go from 4 and 6 year olds, to highly confident 9 and 11 year olds.

Melanie always put the children and the job first, and although working from our home could have meant a more informal attitude to schooling, she remained the ultimate professional.

Melanie Curry was a lifeline to our family when our son Sam (15) was diagnosed with dyslexia. The diagnosis is a double edged sword – it’s a relief to put a name to the problem, but what to do about it is another problem in itself.  Available information is overwhelming and confusing.  Dyslexia conjured up gut wrenching images of illiteracy, frustration and bewilderment.

Melanie was able to steer us through the implications of dyslexia with confidence and humour.

The mere idea that dyslexia is a “learning difference” rather than a “learning problem” coloured our rainbow!  Suddenly, we knew that this was a mountain that we could climb and that the top was in sight!

The night before Sam started his course I lay awake tossing and turning, wondering if we were doing the right thing, subjecting him to this week long intensive brain changing programme.  Would he hate every minute?  Would he be bored? Would he think it uncool?  Fifteen year old boys are hard to fathom at the best of times!

One look at his exhausted by jubilant face when he got home put my fears to rest.  At last, someone understood.  Not only did they understand but they could teach him how to cope with his issues.  “She is so cool” says it all really.

Every dyslexic is different.  The one on one Davis™ Dyslexia programme caters for every individual’s separate issues.   Melanie took Sam on a sympathetic, and sometimes exhausting, journey but he emerged at the other end confident about his future as a learner and more importantly confident about his future as a person.

Part of the course involves a parent or caregiver learning to assist in the ongoing use of the techniques.  Melanie also took the time to make sure that I fully understood the programme and its implications.  She answered all my dumb questions and she laughed with me when I couldn’t (and wouldn’t) do some of the exercises.

Sam is now secure in the knowledge that he has a “tool kit” of strategies to turn to when the going gets tough and we all know that we can turn to Melanie at any time for a helping hand (and such a great smile). Thank you, Melanie

I didn't realise I was Dyslexic until it was pointed out to me, I guess I never really understood what Dyslexia was. I took it for granted that my spelling, handwriting and learning skills were below average. I couldn't understand information and or retain it - this was an area of great concern and embarrassment for me. That was until I met Melanie and did a course with her!!!

The more I use my tools the more I'm impressed. I've notice great results in my handwriting and spelling; and retaining information is becoming a lot easier.

Thank you so much Mel for your help and showing me there is another way to learn. Thank you!

Anisha has gained so much confidence from working through the Dyslexia Correction program and she just loved working with Melanie!  Anisha now seems more motivated and empowered to help herself, which truly is a life skill.

She is learning how to monitor her energy levels and now has tools she can reach for if she becomes disoriented or confused with reading, or with other learning tasks.  Sometimes she uses her tools just to re-focus her mind.

Melanie gave sincere attention to Anisha’s individual needs, and her caring and calm personality was a great balance for Anisha’s creative and at times animated temperament.

Anisha said, “My tools help me when I get really frustrated -  I have tools in my brain!

"We have been particularly pleased with the results of the Davis programme. One visual-spatial learner we sent to a Davis center gained four grade levels in one week, and retained the gain."
