DAVIS MATH MASTERY PROGRAMME

Often those who experience difficulty with maths are talented visual-spatial thinkers.  They need a way to understand mathematical concepts in a visual, hands-on way.

The Maths Mastery Programme is the solution for adults and children over the age of 8 who are having difficulty with any area of Mathematics, including:
  • reading numerals
  • counting
  • adding
  • subtracting
  • multiplying
  • dividing
  • time
  • sequencing

Davis Orientation Tools
The programme attends to the root cause of the learning challenges, by giving the person three mental strategies or 'Tools'
Dealing with the difficulties
A visual, meaning-based, hands-on approach is used.  It uses clay, enabling the individual to use their natural strengths and talents to learn.

Clay is used to master important life concepts such as change, consequence, cause and effect, time, sequence, and order/disorder. Some or all of these concepts are often missing in people who have difficulties with mathematics. The concepts are mastered creating clay models of each concept and exploring them in the ‘real world’.

Once these concepts have been mastered, the individual works through the various functions of mathematics through a visual and meaning based approach, using the medium of clay.

"Two years ago I would never have known that I would be one of the top mathematicians in my math class. I was below national standards - struggling with Maths and not understanding it. That all changed when I met Mel. Mel has helped me with my maths by teaching me the  Davis tools.  Using these tools I managed to achieve 84% on my first set of year six exams. Now I have no worry that my next set of exams will be any worse. Mel has changed my school life. Thanks Mel"
